The re-arrests of the Kamiti convicts is a result of cooperation established between citizens and public administration system/ National Government Administrative Structures. Such partnerships through diverse structures like Nyumba Kumi & local security committees are necessary to keep our nation safe. We are daily faced with a lot of security threats and challenges that are bound to get stronger as a result of the global warming and climate change on one hand and also the growing cases of insecure neighbours, whose impacts are sometimes felt in the country. These security challenges cannot be addressed by the public sector alone and as such, there is need to ensure that adequate partnerships that are well defined can be activated all the time to address any emerging threat. It shows the value that can be leveraged on partnerships to succeed in taming insecurity and other threats that face nations today. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goal number 17 deals with the need for the establishment of innovative partnerships that should be developed in such a way that the partners can leverage on their strengths to address the security challenges.
The SDG goal number 17 is critical to the achievement of the other goals that have a target for 2030 just as our own Kenya Vision 2030. There is need to ensure that the nation builds successful security and other related resilience systems which are critical in achievement of the needed security arrangements. There is need to develop adequate infrastructure systems through the cooperation of the stakeholders who should use their different strengths. This will lead to the development and actualization of muiti-pronged strategies that lead to the timely sharing of the security related information to address insecurities. There is need for partnerships in the security area through the use of modern technology cooperation between the security apparatus and the Information Communication Technology companies who stand to gain and do more business if the country is secure. Most of insecurity issues can be addressed by simply using ICT including Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Secondly, there is need for strategic knowledge sharing between stakeholders through channels that are dedicated for such aspects. There is need for investments in infrastructure, adequate surveillance and adequate resourcing for the security arrangements.
